Iris melanosis is a darkening of the iris due to cells on the cat’s iris proliferating and producing brown pigment that becomes melanin. Iris melanosis may begin as a single confined dark spot or several spots. Iris melanoma is a less common malignancy that occurs in melanocytes within the stroma of the iris. Patients are usually asymptomatic and most are unintentionally aware of a change in iris colour or a dark spot on the iris. Some patients develop anterior uveitis or blood accumulation in the anterior chamber secondary to tumour necrosis or glaucoma secondary to eye redness and eye pain in advanced stages.
