Ear mites in cats are not contagious to people but can be transmitted to other animals and need to be kept in isolation if there are other pets etc in the home. Secondly, untreated ear mites can cause otitis media in later stages, even bleeding pus etc. After being diagnosed and prescribed medication by the hospital, first pour ear wash into the ear canal, then gently rub the root of the ear. The purpose of this step is to dissolve the ear wax, then use a tissue to wipe away all the dirt that can be seen, and finally pour in the medication for ear mites and stick with it for a week or so, then go back to the hospital for a check-up to confirm that there are no ear mites. If the ear canal is not cleaned regularly and hygiene is not taken into account, then ear mites will return.
