Antibiotics are used early on in canine peritonitis to control the infection. There are penicillin, ampicillin and cephalosporin quinolones. For dogs in shock improve circulation and correct dehydration by administering 100-1500ml of Green’s fluid, dexamethasone 1-10mg and cephalosporin 100-200mg intravenously 1-2 times daily depending on body weight. Excessive abdominal exudate should be released by puncture and injected with 0.2% procaine penicillin 10ml. 20-40ml of intravenous calcium gluconate solution will stop the exudate.
