If the infection is due to trauma or pollen, it will not be contagious through contact. If it is due to a viral infection, such as feline herpes virus infection or feline mycoplasma, it will be transmitted by contact. When a cat has an inflamed eye, it is recommended to go to hospital for examination and symptomatic treatment. If the inflammation is due to a viral infection and there are other cats at home, isolate and treat.
