Trichuris trichiura is the full name of Trichuris trichiura and belongs to the same group of flagellates as Giardia, both of which are protozoa. Usually, ordinary deworming medication has no effect on it. Infection can lead to diarrhoea or soft stools in cats. Diagnosis can be confirmed by faecal microscopy. Treatment can be metronidazole or ronidazole and requires symptomatic treatment to stop diarrhoea and reduce inflammation.
