How to recognise hookworm in dogs

In adult dogs, a small number of hookworm infections are asymptomatic. In severe infections in puppies, pale mucous membranes, lethargy, a coarse, lustrous, shedding coat, loss of appetite, heterophilia, vomiting, digestive disturbances, alternating episodes of dysentery and constipation. The faeces are bloody or black in colour. In severe cases it is tarry and smells foul. Puppies can develop inflammation of the skin, itching, breakouts and erosion of the corners of the mouth until they die of severe anaemia and coma.
