Generally speaking, there is no treatment for rabies in dogs. If a dog is infected with the rabies virus and develops neurological symptoms, the dog will die within a week or two. However, the incubation period for rabies varies from dog to dog, as the physical condition of the dog varies, so the duration of the attack varies. Many dogs will first appear irritable, lethargic, unable to close their mouths, drooling profusely, photophobic, hydrophobic, nerve paralysis, and have obvious signs of aggression to some wind, sound and light, or even indiscriminate aggression at a later stage when the rabies virus strikes. Once a dog is found to be infected with the rabies virus, it is important that the dog is reported to the local vaccination centre for professional treatment of the rabies virus.
