Will a local dog die if it eats chocolate?

No breed of dog should eat chocolate. Chocolate is processed from cocoa beans and contains a variety of methylxanthine derivatives, caffeine and theobromine being two of these substances, both of which are lethal to dogs. The theobromine in chocolate, on the other hand, acts on the dog’s central nervous system and heart muscle, thus poisoning the dog. This is because dogs are slow to metabolise theobromine. Therefore, it tends to accumulate in the dog’s body, and when it reaches a certain dose, it can cause poisoning. If your dog has eaten chocolate, please take him to the doctor immediately.
