False pregnancy in dogs is caused by a disruption of hormone metabolism in the body and can be solved in three ways: one is to spay or neuter the dog. False pregnancy not only allows the dog to show signs of pregnancy, but also tends to lead to diseases such as pus accumulation in the uterus. Therefore, it is recommended that the dog is spayed and neutered, because firstly, the body will no longer produce progesterone and there will be no signs of pregnancy, and secondly, the risk of uterine abscesses will be reduced. The second method is conservative treatment. False pregnancy is caused by an overproduction of lactogen, which in turn is the result of the action of many types of oestrogen, so the dog is given an injection of an androgen, such as testosterone, to regulate the hormonal balance in the body. A third approach is to wait and see what happens. If severe clinical signs of pseudopregnancy persist for more than 2 to 3 weeks, consider the possibility of hypothyroidism.
