Sedation is required during seizures, which can lead to acute metabolic disturbances, so blood gas analysis is required after a seizure and fluids are administered as a result of the test. Also epilepsy can only be controlled not cured, so long term oral anti-epileptic or sedative medication is required and seizures in older dogs are likely to be fatal.
