Brucella canis infections should be treated primarily as an antibacterial, with heavy use of antibiotics early in the disease to kill the bacteria, and chloramphenicol for oral use and streptomycin for injection to relieve bacteraemia. Treatment is generally not recommended for affected dogs, which are found to be immediately isolated and trapped, and the disease infects other animals and people, with attention to public hygiene.
