Feline distemper (feline panleukopenia) occurs mainly when cats are under-vaccinated and unvaccinated. The feline microvirus type 2 (CPv-2) is formed by a mutation of FPV. The original CPV-2 variant is capable of infecting cats and can cause clinical disease. Cat parents are advised to get their cats vaccinated whenever they arrive.
