Ascites, also known as ascites, is not an independent disease but a symptom that accompanies many diseases. The main cause of ascites occurs because of difficulties in the return of blood and lymph. It is usually secondary to certain diseases that cause portal vein stasis, such as cirrhosis, portal vein embolism and tumours, in addition to heart disease, kidney disease and severe malnutrition.
