Hydroxyprogesterone or progesterone can be used to suppress oestrus. These medications are not recommended if the bitch has uterine fibroids or ovarian tumours. Any medication used to suppress oestrus in dogs has side effects and should not be used for long periods of time. Play with your dog when she is in heat to distract her, and if necessary, have her spayed.
