The first teacups emerged as a result of a genetic mutation and were so loved by many that someone stabilised the mutation by artificially breeding teacups. The Teacup was bred by American breeders and evolved into its current form. The Teacup has become the new favourite of all poodle lovers because of its small size and cuteness. The term Teacup does not refer to a single breed. There are now a stable of 5-7 breeds of teacups: Teacup Poodle, Teacup Yorkshire, Teacup Maltese (Maltese), Teacup Chihuahua, Teacup Pomeranian and many more. After half a century of breeding, the Teacup genetics have become relatively stable, and some breeders have set standards for what is considered to be a good Teacup if it weighs less than 4lbs and stands no more than 8 inches tall. Since the standard was set, it has become easier to distinguish the Teacup from the average Poodle.
