Signs of pregnancy in female dogs appear about a week after mating. This is evidenced by the rapid contraction of the clitoris of the fertile bitch, and pregnancy reactions such as vomiting and loss of appetite may occur at three or four weeks of pregnancy. At 20-30 days gestation, the pregnant dog’s mammary glands protrude, the breasts are distended and the nipples are peachy red.
