Late stage distemper treatment

Distemper is classified as respiratory, gastrointestinal or neurological and treatment can be anti-inflammatory and anti-infective for the symptoms, as well as antiviral treatment with biologics. In case of neurological symptoms such as convulsions, oral medication such as anti-epileptic can be given or Chinese medicine can be used. The later stages of distemper are treated symptomatically, with dogs with breathing difficulties being treated with nebulisation to clear respiratory secretions. Vomiting and diarrhoea should be treated by fasting and giving fluids to prevent dehydration, and in the case of aggravation, neurological symptoms such as convulsions, which can only be relieved with medication.
