There are two types of diabetes, but they are both treated with insulin injections to lower blood sugar. Type 1 diabetes is a disease in which insufficient insulin production causes high blood sugar levels in the body. Type 2 diabetes is a disease in which there is a relative lack of insulin or insulin resistance in the body, resulting in the inability of blood sugar to bind to insulin and the inability of the body to break down blood sugar.
