How to check for encephalitis in dogs

Cerebrospinal fluid examination helps to diagnose encephalitis. In bacterial meningitis, the protein content and white blood cell count in the cerebrospinal fluid are significantly elevated. In granulocytic meningitis, the cerebrospinal fluid has increased protein and leukocyte count and a large number of monocytes are seen. In septic meningitis, in addition to an increase in neutrophils, pathogenic microorganisms are also seen in the cerebrospinal fluid. Cerebrospinal fluid serology is useful in identifying specific pathogens and CT is better at identifying organic brain lesions.
