How the micro-virus is transmitted

Canine microcephaly mainly infects dogs, especially puppies, and is extremely contagious. The sick dog is the main source of infection, with large amounts of virus in its vomit, saliva and faecal secretions. Recovered dogs can still excrete the virus through their faeces for long periods of time. Healthy dogs can be infected through direct contact with a sick or infected dog, or through the digestive tract via contaminated feed and water, or through the reproductive organs of a healthy dog mated with an affected ice dog.
