Under normal circumstances a dog’s anal glands can be squeezed once in about 15-30 days, usually when giving the dog a bath. If left uncleaned for a long time, it can easily lead to anal glanditis, causing anal gland ulceration or anal gland fistula. If the dog appears to be sitting on the floor and rubbing his bottom frequently, owners should pay more attention to check for inflammation. Dogs may feel uncomfortable after squeezing anal gland fluid and may have itching and redness, so apply a vulva care spray or anal redness cream to the dog’s anus.
