Uremia in dogs is generally assessed by doctors based on clinical signs and clinical examination. Chronic renal failure is irreversible, but the course of the disease can be slowed down by active medication and control thereby prolonging the life of the animal. Current options include haemodialysis, infusion therapy and so on, with a proportion of dogs surviving for six months or even years.
