Characteristics of the bone-mouthed Shar Pei: 1. The general outward appearance is closely structured with a compact bone structure that is square in side view. 2. The skull is flat and wide with relatively numerous and well-defined folds on both sides of the front face and cheeks that continue down to the drooping parts of the sides of the neck. The muzzle is shaped like a hippopotamus’ mouth.3. The eyes are dark and small, almond-shaped and sunken, and the teeth are hard and horizontal with a clipped bite. The tongue is dark purple and the ears are small, thick and equilateral triangular in shape. The chest is wide and deep, with plenty of bone in the short back. The neck is strong and plump and well connected to the shoulders.
