Dogs should not eat chocolate. Amongst the chocolate that dogs cannot receive are the many derivatives of methylxanthine (methylxanthine) contained in the cocoa bean, such as: caffeine and theobromine. These substances bind to certain receptors on the surface of cells, thus preventing natural substances in the animal’s body from binding to the receptors. Small amounts of these substances can cause vomiting and diarrhoea, while large doses can cause muscle cramps or even shock, and even death. The higher the cocoa content of chocolate, the more important it is to avoid giving it to your dog. Chocolate-flavoured foods with cocoa butter, on the other hand, are not very good for your dog’s body, but a little goes a long way now and then.
