Diagnosis and treatment of horned blood ticks in dogs

Diagnosis of the canine longhorned blood tick: adult worms are found on the affected dog after it has been bailed out. They are particularly abundant in the ears, neck and feet. They are not easily removed by hand, and if forced, can result in the tick’s mouthparts carrying the affected dog’s muscle tissue and some signs of bleeding at the bite site. Remove the tick from the affected dog and send it to a laboratory for examination. Treatment: Oral deworming with a combination of internal and external dewormers.
