Causes of red-brown tears in cats

Generally speaking, the normal colour of a cat’s tears is clear or reddish-brown. Normal cats only need to clean their eyes once a day. If the cat’s reddish-brown tears are accompanied by other symptoms such as ocular oedema and increased eye discharge, it is likely to be the result of a localised eye lesion. For example: conjunctivitis, herpes virus, culex virus. This condition needs to be treated promptly by taking the cat to hospital for examination and confirmation.
