Can dogs be poisoned by accidental ingestion of mothballs?

Natural mothballs are aromatic organic compounds extracted from the leaves and branches of the camphor tree, while synthetic mothballs are mainly composed of naphthalene or p-dichlorobenzene, which once replaced natural mothballs due to the lower cost of making synthetic mothballs and the limited availability of natural camphor. Both naphthalene and p-dichlorobenzene can cause poisoning in dogs, but p-dichlorobenzene is about half as toxic as naphthalene.
