Folliculitis in dogs is not usually contagious, but dogs that scratch their skin with their paws can become infected. Folliculitis often occurs in dogs with a low immune system, when the skin is damaged and the germs invade the hair follicles and cause inflammation. Folliculitis is also related to the environment and diet.
