Dog Tick Removal Tips 1. Apply alcohol to the tick to relax or kill the tick’s head, and then remove the tick with pointed tweezers a few minutes later. But be careful not to leave the tick’s mouthparts in the dog’s skin.2. Use a topical dewormer, such as Big Pet or Fleen, and drop it on the back of the dog’s neck; the dewormer will cause the tick to die and fall off automatically.3. Rub anti-inflammatory medication on the cleared wound to prevent inflammation and ulceration. When the wound scab falls off, the dog’s skin returns to its normal flesh-pink color before it is completely healed.
