Red, swollen, itchy and smelly ears in dogs can be caused by ear mites or bacterial diseases. Dogs with mites in their ears can become itchy and smelly. Owners need to first clean their dog’s ears with an ear wash and treat them with ear mite medication. Ear discomfort caused by bacteria should also be treated with medication.
