Convulsions in dogs are generally suspected of poisoning, epilepsy, bacterial or viral meningitis. Any recent ingestion of toxic substances should be recalled, and the dog’s temperature should be taken and checked for good mental status. The occurrence of bacterial or viral meningitis has been ruled out and is usually accompanied by neurologic spasms and other symptoms. And if the dog is older, the occurrence of epileptic disease needs to be considered. The cause of the convulsions needs to be evaluated based on a combination of usual symptoms and past history.
