Difficult cat birth is crucial for both the owner and the cat, because the outcome of the judgment determines the treatment plan, and a slight error may put the life of the big cat or kitten in danger. What about the symptoms of obstructed labor and what to do when a cat is in obstructed labor? Causes of obstructed labor: weak and feeble contractions and straining; premature contractions and water breakage; uterine gas. Obstetric obstructed labor is mostly due to insufficient secretion of estrogen, oxytocin, posterior pituitary hormone and prostaglandin, excessive secretion of progesterone, poor nutrition during pregnancy, insufficient exercise, obesity or old age and frailty. Obstetric obstructed labor: pelvic deformation, dysplasia and fracture; vaginal pubic stenosis, cervical stenosis; uterine malformation; 4. uterine twisting and uterine rupture. Fetal obstructed labor: fetus is too large or both fetuses enter the birth canal at the same time, fetal malformation; fetal malposition, fetal malposition and fetal malorientation. Symptoms: 1. The prenatal period has arrived, but the number of contractions is small and weak, and the fetus is not delivered after 24 hours or the second fetus is not delivered after 4-6 hours after the first fetus is delivered. 2. The contractions are normal, and the fetus is not delivered after 2-3 hours, or part of the fetus enters the birth canal and cannot be delivered, and the vagina flows outward with dark brown and foul-smelling discharge. In addition to the above, the affected cat also shows mental distress, increased heartbeat and breathing, and whimpering in pain. In case of prolonged obstructed labor, the systemic condition of the fetus deteriorates due to decomposition and absorption of toxins. For obstructed labor, use 0.5-1.0 unit/kg body weight of oxytocin, and inject a second time after 30 minutes of no birth. 2. Inject 0.5-1 unit/kg body weight of posterior pituitary gland, and inject a second time after 90 minutes of no birth. 3. When the fetus enters the birth canal, use sponge forceps to hold the head or hind limbs to pull out the fetus slowly. 4. In the case of narrow vaginal area, lateral incision can be chosen to help the fetus to be delivered. The obstructed labor and the day-to-day obstructed labor require immediate caesarean section. Response 1. Massage the cat’s abdomen with the palm of your hand and press the abdominal wall, changing from light to heavy to strengthen the contraction to deliver the fetus. 2. If the cat is still not delivered after 30 minutes or more of massaging the abdomen, subcutaneous injection of posterior pituitary hormone and ethylene estradiol 0.5-1 mg can be chosen to promote the contraction of the smooth muscle of the uterus of the mother cat, the opening of the cervix and the delivery of the fetus. 3. If the mother cat is lying on her side, the left hand is placed against the cat’s shoulder and the right hand holds the exposed part of the fetus and sends it into the pelvic cavity before gently turning the fetus and pulling it out. 4. Some female cats with more serious conditions can choose to undergo a caesarean operation. Precautions 1. Do not allow strangers to be present when the cat is in labor, as this can easily affect the delivery. 2. After a successful delivery, the mother cat will tear the fetal coat and bite the umbilical cord with her teeth, eat the placenta, and then lick the mucus from the cat’s body with her tongue before giving birth, without human help. 3. If the mother cat is found to be not maternal and does not take the initiative to care for the output, human help is needed. 4. cold weather in winter and the mother cat is overproductive and unable to care for the cat, she needs timely help to cut the umbilical cord and dry the body mucus with a soft cloth. 5. Pay attention to observe the cat’s suckling situation, if there are individual cats that cannot get close to the mother cat’s nipple help as close as possible, it is not possible to implement artificial breastfeeding. 6. It is better to go to gloves or isolate the soft cloth when stroking the cat and stick to the body fluids discharged by the mother cat, in case she thinks the cat is not children, refusing to nurse, and may even appear to bite the cat to death or swallow it.
