Dogs that eat fish spines are usually fine and may excrete them. However, if the fish spike is very large, it can get stuck in the dog and needs to be taken out in the hospital. Dogs will not die from eating fish spines, but there is a possibility that they may lodge in the intestines, so try not to feed your dog fish spines. In addition to fish spines, chicken, duck, goose bones and other small hollow bones should not be fed to dogs. Sharp bones are at risk of scratching your dog’s esophagus or intestines. If a dog accidentally eats a fish spike, the owner can feed white rice to help the dog swallow the spike together with his stomach, or he can feed yeast tablets in moderation to help soften the fish spike.
