The Hungarian Shepherd, also known as the Kommune, comes from the Puszta region of Hungary, and its hair grows vertically in a rope-like manner for four years to the ground, so it is also known as the “mop dog”, and it is the only dog that can dive.
[Size]
Males are about 27.5 inches or taller at the shoulder; females are about 25.5 inches or taller at the shoulder, males weigh 100 pounds or more; females weigh 80 pounds or more, and mature dogs should have adequate bone and muscle mass. Tall stature is important, but type, quality, proportionality, movement and sturdiness are also very important and there is no reason to sacrifice any of these for size alone. The proportions of the body are slightly longer than shoulder height. Less than the minimum height is a defect.
[Head]
The head is huge. The length of the head (distance from the back of the occiput to the nosepiece) is about 2/5 of the shoulder height, with dark skin around the muzzle and eyes.
Eyes: Medium sized, almond shaped, not too dark in position. The color of the eyes is dark brown, with gray or black eyelids. Light colored eyes are a defect; orchid eyes are a disqualification.
Ears: Long triangular in shape with slightly rounded tips. The root of the ear is moderately positioned and extends to the inner corners of the eyes on both sides. Standing ears or ears that tend to be erect are considered defects.
Head: The head is broad, with a nicely rounded shape between the eyes, a clear posterior occiput, and a moderate stop.
Muzzle: The muzzle is wide and thick, with a truncated top. The length from the inner corner of the eye to the nasal mirror is 2/5 of the length of the head, and the profile of the muzzle is straight and parallel to the top of the head. The lower jaw is very wide and well developed. The lips are tight and black in color. Ideally the gums and upper jaw are dark or black in color.
Nose: The nasal mirror is wide and at a right angle to the upper contour of the muzzle. The nostrils are wide and the noseglasses are black; dark gray or dark brown noseglasses are undesirable, but acceptable. Flesh-colored noseglasses are out of character.

The coat is a long-lasting, strong, rope-like coat that feels like felt to the touch. The adult Hungarian Shepherd is completely covered with a large, spiky, rope-like coat. [Gait]
