The raised bone on the top of the Golden’s head is a characteristic of the breed. Purebred Goldens will have a raised bone on the top of their head. It’s obvious when you’re young, like a horn, and it gets better as you get older. Purebred English Goldens do have a raised bone on the top of their head, while purebred American have a slightly sunken skull right above it. The British have a large skeleton, short and coarse hair, and pale; the American have a smaller skeleton than the British, and the hair is a little longer and perhaps closer to gold than the British, and feels better to the touch.
