The German Shepherd, like other dogs, comes into heat 1-2 times in six months on average. Because dogs come into heat seasonally, every spring and fall, from March to May and from September to November, a red discharge will appear from the female’s pubic area, and when the flow becomes lighter, she will begin to come into heat, and the male dog will come into heat anytime he smells the female. Owners who want to breed their own German Shepherd should ideally start within 11-15 days after the female’s period, as this is when the chances of conception are greatest. Generally speaking, the German Shepherd will start her first heat 6-8 months after birth, and there are cases where it is delayed until the age of 1 year, but this is not a time when breeding is recommended, because the female’s body is not fully developed at this time, and if she goes into labor, it will likely result in a difficult birth and affect the quality of the breeding.
