Diarrhoea in cats with kidney failure

Renal failure in cats first requires laboratory tests combined with ultrasound to determine whether it is acute or chronic in origin, followed by fluid replacement and diuresis to find ways to reduce nephrotoxin levels and treat azotemia. If fluid therapy does not work, peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis will be the treatment of choice. Diarrhoea in renal failure can be treated symptomatically with probiotics and astringent anti-diarrhoeal medication to control secondary infections.
