The Akita’s personality and shortcomings are due to its Spitz heritage, the Akita is brave, independent, tough and stubborn. They have a deep love for their family and are very loyal and protective of their owners. They are reserved to stranger contact and aggressive towards other dogs. They can also be dominant. Although this breed is not for everyone, in the right hands, it can be an excellent companion. How to Raise an Akita The Akita needs to be given daily physical and mental exercise. They need to run in a safe field or wear a leash for a long trot. Given enough exercise and training, the Akita can be a quiet and well-mannered family dog. The coat should be brushed once a week to remove dead hair and groomed frequently during the moulting period. They tend to get a wet mess when they drink.
