Why dogs should not be bathed with human shampoo

1. The acidity of our human skin is not the same as that of a dog’s skin. Dogs’ skin is weakly alkaline (pH 7.5) and human skin is weakly acidic (female skin pH 5.5, male skin pH 6.5). Baths or shampoos designed for people are generally alkaline and can neutralise human skin values. The alkaline skin of dogs is not neutralised by the same alkaline shampoo, but instead washes away the oils that protect the surface of the skin, creating dryness, itchy skin, allergies, flakes and a range of other problems, reducing the skin’s immunity and causing skin disease. 2. The structure of our human skin is different from that of pets. Human skin has 10~15 layers while a dog’s has only 3~5 layers. This means that although dogs are protected by a thick coat, their skin structure is much more fragile than that of humans. We humans love shampoos or shampoos with a scent, and when choosing a shampoo for our pets, many of us like to smell it too. In fact, this is a wrong habit.
