Why do female dogs have pus in their uterus?

Canine uterine pus is an acute or chronic disease that occurs in dogs in late oestrus, mostly in adult dogs. The clinical signs can be divided into atretic uterine pus and open uterine pus. The clinical manifestations are often multi-systemic, mainly in dogs in late oestrus, when the immune level of the uterine cells is reduced due to increased progesterone concentrations and reduced oestrogen concentrations. The increased progesterone concentration causes increased endometrial hyperplasia and glandular secretion, again favouring the growth and multiplication of foreign bacteria. The mucosa of the uterus becomes diseased by invasion of foreign bacteria and uterine secretions increase.
