The main causes of small vesicular rashes in the mouth of cats are ulcerative stomatitis, blistering stomatitis and other diseases. Of these, ulcerative stomatitis is most often secondary to systemic diseases such as feline viral rhinotracheitis. Extensive, superficial ulcerative lesions usually form rapidly on the tongue, hard palate and gums. Herpesvirus infection in cats also causes frequent sneezing and increased eye discharge. Blistering stomatitis is often associated with systemic diseases such as malnutrition, and small blisters appear on the oral mucosa, which gradually develop into bright red ulcers with well-defined lesions.
