What to look out for when neutering your dog

Dogs should be neutered when they are in good health. An appointment can be made with the hospital for the surgery when the dog’s mental appetite and bowel movements are normal. A 6 hour fast and 2 hour water fast is required in advance of the day of surgery. The Elizabethan collar should be worn for 7 to 10 days after the operation and the dog should not be allowed to lick the incision until it has healed. The dog should not be bathed and the incision should not be exposed to water until the incision is fully healed.
