When a dog has acute symptoms such as neck and shoulder pain and radiating pain in the upper limbs, or has varying degrees of limb sensory and motor deficits, rest should be taken to facilitate the reduction of local inflammation and nerve root oedema and to reduce the burden on the neck muscles; anti-inflammatory and analgesic medication can be used to reduce or control the symptoms, and if there is no improvement surgery is recommended according to the test results.
