When a dog is found to have a fracture, the fracture can be fixed in place with bamboo, small boards, branches etc. to protect the injury and reduce the movement of the broken end to prevent re-injury. The dog should then be taken to the vet promptly. If a serious fracture causes significant bleeding, a rope or clothing should be used to temporarily stop the bleeding above the fracture. If the skin of the fracture is broken and has been exposed, it should be wrapped with clean clothes or tissue paper if possible to prevent secondary infection before being taken to the vet for treatment.
