What should I do if my cat has a black lower lip?

Blackening of the edge of the lower lip in cats is usually the result of folliculitis. Cut the cat’s chin hair short before wiping and cleaning with an alkaline cleaner such as soap, tea, medical alcohol etc. If the cat’s skin appears red, anti-inflammatory medication, such as erythromycin ointment, needs to be applied. If the hair follicle becomes pus-filled and breaks the skin, prompt medical attention is recommended.
