Skin diseases in dogs include bacterial skin diseases, parasitic skin diseases, fungal skin diseases, allergic skin diseases and endocrine skin diseases. Depending on the type of skin disease, different medications can be given. Bacterial skin diseases are mostly treated internally with anti-inflammatory drugs and externally with common anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory sprays. Fungal skin diseases can be treated with internal anti-fungal medication and external anti-fungal ointment. Parasitic dermatoses, most often associated with mixed infections of fungal or bacterial dermatoses, can be treated with additional in vitro parasite deworming medication on top of the other two types of dermatoses. Allergic skin diseases are mostly related to the seasons, allergens in the environment and foods that can cause allergies, and often require treatment with some immunosuppressants. Endocrine skin diseases require an acth stimulation test and T4 test at the vet, followed by symptomatic treatment.
