After a dog has been injured, the wound can be rinsed with plenty of water and then disinfected with alcohol, iodophor or with hydrogen peroxide. Alcohol is more irritating and can make the wound feel like it is burning, while hydrogen peroxide will cause a slight burning sensation, but less painful than alcohol. Disinfection with iodine does not sting.
