If the dog has an inflamed wound, it can be treated directly with an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory ointment that can be applied to the wound. If the dog’s wound is very inflamed, even to the point of elevated temperature and poor mental health, systemic antibiotics may be used. It is important to ensure that the wound is dry and clean during treatment and not to allow the dog to lick the wound at will and aggravate the infection.
