What is a pneumothorax in dogs?

The pleural cavity does not contain gas under normal circumstances in dogs. It is only in a disease state that gas enters the pleural cavity causing a series of pathophysiological processes caused by pneumatosis on the pleura that it is called a pneumothorax. There are spontaneous, primary and traumatic pneumothoraxes. Traumatic ones are common, such as dog bites, car accidents and jumping off buildings, etc. are prone to pneumothorax.
