What is a fever in a dog?

A temperature of 39.5 degrees or higher is considered a fever when the dog is in a stable state. There are many different causes of fever and it is advisable to visit your vet for prompt examination and treatment of the symptoms. Distemper, for example, can also cause recurrent fever in dogs, accompanied by symptoms such as coughing, runny nose and sneezing, and later on, neurological symptoms such as convulsions, and is susceptible to unvaccinated puppies and dogs with poor resistance.
